Our digital remastering of a 1880's Irish land League poster. The Irish National Land League, founded in 1879, sought to address the plight of Irish tenant farmers facing high rents and insecure tenure. Led by figures like Michael Davitt and Charles Stewart Parnell, the League advocated for land reform with demands including fair rent and fixity of tenure. Through nonviolent protest and rent withholding, it garnered widespread support, but British repression led to its official suppression in 1881. Despite its short existence, the Land League played a pivotal role in shaping Irish politics and advancing the cause of land reform and tenant rights.
