A digital remastered map based on a map of Lewis and Clark's track across the western portion of North America, from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean. The Lewis and Clark expedition, commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson in 1803, was a landmark journey to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase and find a route to the Pacific Ocean. Led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, the expedition lasted from 1804 to 1806. The Corps of Discovery, as the group was known, traveled thousands of miles across uncharted territory, encountering Native American tribes, documenting new plant and animal species, and mapping the western lands of the United States. The expedition is celebrated for its scientific discoveries and contributions to the understanding of the American West.
