The "Great Encouragement for Seamen" was a 1777 recruitment advertisement aimed at enlisting sailors for the American Revolutionary War. Promising high wages, prize money, and the chance to defend liberty, it sought to attract skilled seamen to the Continental Navy. The ad highlighted the benefits of serving the patriot cause, including the opportunity to capture British ships and gain wealth. It reflected the urgent need for naval manpower as the young United States fought for independence from Britain.
