Billy the Kid, born Henry McCarty, was a notorious American outlaw in the Old West during the late 19th century. Involved in the Lincoln County War, he gained notoriety for his participation in cattle rustling and gunfights. The Kid was imprisoned and sentenced to death but escaped, becoming a legendary figure in Western folklore. His death at the hands of Sheriff Pat Garrett in 1881 at the age of 21 further fueled his mythic status as a quintessential Old West outlaw.
