The Soloheadbeg ambush took place on January 21, 1919, in County Tipperary and is widely regarded as the opening action of the Irish War of Independence. IRA volunteers, including Dan Breen and Seán Treacy, attacked and killed two Royal Irish Constabulary officers escorting explosives. Though unauthorized, the ambush ignited nationwide resistance. It marked a shift toward guerrilla warfare and set the tone for the conflict ahead. Its legacy endures as a symbol of Irish defiance and revolutionary determination. The Proclamation poster is a digital remastering of the original, its not an historical document.
