The Fenian Catalpa Rescue of 1876 was a daring mission to free six Irish political prisoners from a British penal colony in Fremantle, Western Australia. The rescue was orchestrated by members of the Fenian Brotherhood, an Irish nationalist organization, and carried out by the American whaling ship Catalpa. Disguised as whalers, the crew successfully smuggled the prisoners aboard and evaded British ships, returning them safely to the United States, where they were hailed as heroes in the fight for Irish independence.
