Located near Camp Toccoa in Georgia, Currahee Mountain is steeped in US history but gained international attention as a training area for US Paratroopers in Steven Spielberg's television miniseries Band of Brothers. Derived from the Cherokee word ᏊᏩᎯ (quu-wa-hi) meaning "stand alone", the paratroopers that run the "three miles up, three miles down!" became known as "Currahees". The airborne regiments that trained from 1942 to 1945 were the 506 PIR – 101st Airborne Division, E Company – Second Batallion, 501 PIR – 101st Airborne Division, 511 PIR – 11th Airborne Division, and the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment - all playing vital roles in every major operation that led to the allied victory of 1945.
