A digital remaster, inspired by an 1849 advert placed by Robert Gourlay for Canadian colonists. Robert Gourlay (1778–1863) was a Scottish-Canadian reformer and advocate for social justice in early 19th-century Canada. Arriving in Upper Canada in 1817, he sought to address land grievances and promote agrarian reform. Gourlay's outspokenness led to his arrest in 1818, marking an early clash with colonial authorities. Though he faced setbacks and eventually returned to Scotland, Gourlay's activism laid the groundwork for future Canadian reform movements. His efforts highlighted the tensions between colonial settlers and British authorities, contributing to the evolving political landscape of pre-Confederation Canada.
